Bringing science to life:
a dramatically different approach

The project provided the following benefits for participating schools and colleges:

• a high quality, exciting two day residential course, providing inspiration, and a chance to explore innovative ideas and approaches to science teaching away from the normal classroom environment;
• techniques and methods designed to raise student motivation and achievement;
• time for reflection and consolidation, and for implementation of ideas back in the classroom;
• cross-fertilisation of ideas and skills between science and drama departments (with a particular focus on cross-curriculum citizenship projects);
• ongoing networking and support for participants via a dedicated online community;
• creative collaboration between participants from different schools/colleges; and
• access to a wide range of expertise, including arts4schools, and the science department at the University of Hertfordshire.

The course has provided me with the opportunity and environment in which to try out new ideas and techniques ... that will help me to motivate my pupils and enhance their learning experience.
I would highly recommend this course to other science teachers as an opportunity to explore, enthuse and embed activities using creative strategies in the classroom.
I have really enjoyed this course and feel "energised" by it... I feel that the work done complements and builds on my existing skills as a science teacher. I have several new ideas which I feel are realistic and will enhance my science teaching.
