GREEN CANDLE DANCE COMPANY
Mina's Story - Summer Term 2003
Mina's Story is a topical and exciting dance theatre show looking at the experience of being a refugee through the eyes of a young person. The show has been designed for 8-13 year olds, with opportunities for developing work around the show's themes in dance, drama, music, visual art and other curriculum areas such as Citizenship. Mina's Story explores the universal issues that face a child growing up - personal and cultural identity, sibling relationships, loss and adventure.
Mina's Story was researched last summer with refugee children from a primary school and a secondary school in Islington as part of the company's work with the school and their Creative Partnership programme. Mina's Story then undertook a successful tour of Islington schools last term and presented a showcase performance in Tower Hamlets which was very well received. The tour includes a workshop programme for years 4 - 8, INSET and 'Behind the Scenes' workshops for performing arts GCSE students.
