arts4schools' 5 minute survey |
We've completed the analysis of responses to our first 5 minute survey. A word document of key findings, recommendations, and our response is available to download on the website, but here is a quick summary of key points:
- The majority of respondents rated the usefulness of the arts4schools site as excellent or good - whereas only a fifth of respondents rated other performing arts websites as excellent or good
- 61% of respondents use the site regularly (at least once a month)
- 81% of all respondents said they would be interested in future conferences, seminars or training courses
- 43% of respondents familiar with the site said they would consider using elcs (e-learning credits) to pay for arts4schools' resources; 47% were not sure
We got lots of positive comments and recommendations, the later falling into four main categories
- More resources
- More information about productions; workshops etc
- More opportunities for networking; sharing of ideas; etc
- More access to news and general arts education information
Some suggestions were already in our development plan but we have updated our plans to incorporate many of the new ideas proposed. many additional good ideas were put forward. The next step is to secure funding
in order to bring these ideas to fruition.

The Dukes, Lancaster
Summer must nearly be here, as the cast of witches, woodcutters and wicked stepmothers have arrived at the Dukes for rehearsals for the Grimm Tales in the park, which opens on Friday 4th July and runs until 9th August.
The Brothers Grimm collected these ancestral stories from Germany and the surrounding countries in an attempt to preserve the traditional domestic tales of the German peasants. They now form many of our best-loved fairytales such as Cinderella and Hansel and Gretel. The stories serve up life as generations knew it - capricious and often cruel, but with humour and magic.
For more information or to book please call the Dukes on 01524 598500.
Sherman Theatre Cardiff
This summer the Sherman Theatre is offering a programme of projects and workshops that young people from Cardiff can get involved in as part of the Cardiff Summer Learning Programme. Between 28 July and 8 August, young people aged between 12 and 15 will be given the chance to either partake in the performance Deadhead II or get involved in the backstage aspects of theatre making with our Technical Workshops. The Sherman Theatre Summer School (4 -30 Aug) will also be providing an opportunity for young people aged 10-25 to take part in the full-scale production Alice in Wonderland.

Chicken Shed Theatre
Monday 7th July - Fri 11 July
"Behind the scenes" at Chicken Shed Theatre, Chase Side, Southgate N14 4PE
Cost: £199.95
Thanks to a first-time collaboration of its kind this summer, adults (17 and over) will be able to experience an intimate insight into the unique work of Chicken Shed Theatre Company.
Chicken Shed hosts the largest childrens’ and youth inclusive theatre companies in the UK, operating out of its north London headquarters. Its performances challenge the audience notion of "ability" in an inclusive creative environment that is built on the belief that everyone has the potential to thrive within the performing arts.
Offered as part of Middlesex University’s Summer School programme, this new course will offer students the chance to perform in some of the performing arts sessions but this is not compulsory – where students do not wish to participate they will be able to observe and contribute to discussions and evaluations.
This short course is designed to introduce students to the work of the Company and is an ideal route into the postgraduate certificate/MA programme "Inclusivity in the Performing Arts" which is the only course of its kind offered through distance learning by Middlesex University and Chicken Shed.

The Mousetrap Foundation - 2
