- Puttnam to speak at conference exploring future of arts education
- arts4schools, a new arts education company, convenes Inspiring Tomorrow's Audiences' (ITA) conference, in association with UCL Bloomsbury and the Theatre Museum
- Conference, to be held in central London on January 20th 2003, will explore the future of arts education in a digital world
- Line up of speakers includes Lord Puttnam, Baroness Blackstone, Peter Jenkinson and representatives from the RSC and the Royal Opera House
It's a fast-moving digital world - and arts education must adapt to the interests and expectations of an increasingly technically literature audience. The Inspiring Tomorrow's Audiences' conference brings together arts organisations, schools, and policy makers to debate ideas, challenges, opportunities and concerns about the future of arts education in a digital world.
An impressive line up of speakers includes Lord David Puttnam, Baroness Blackstone (Minister of State for the Arts), Peter Jenkinson (National Director, Creative Partnerships), Patrick Spottiswoode (Director, Globe Education), and Jonathan Drori (Director, Culture Online). Delegates will benefit from breakout sessions to discuss specific areas of the arts, led by representatives from the RSC, the Royal Opera House, and Birmingham Royal Ballet.
arts4schools is the young arts education company behind the conference. They work with the education departments of nearly 200 arts organisations across the UK (including The Globe, the RSC, English National Ballet, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, etc) to give schools easy online access to information and resources about the performing arts. Development Director Jim Gatten explained why they had convened the ITA conference:
"If we want to reach - and inspire - young audiences, we need to use communication channels that they're comfortable with. Email and the Internet represent the path of least resistance to young people's hearts - but quality information about the arts is still rare in the digital domain. We hope the conference will change that".
