Conference recommends new ways of furthering arts education
- The Report from the January "Inspiring Tomorrow's Audiences" conference has been published
- The Report makes a number of key recommendations for progress in arts education including:
- More resources to help young people understand all aspects of the arts.
- Establishment of a clear professional framework for the teacher/artist/arts educator relationship.
- Training and other support for arts educators working to develop multimedia resources.
A new report "Inspiring Tomorrow's Audiences" has been published today by arts education specialists arts4schools. The report summarises the views of over three hundred teachers, arts educators and policy makers who attended the ITA conference in January 2003.
Announcing the report's findings Maria Evans, Executive Director for arts4schools said: "This report and the conference which preceded it clearly demonstrate both the need and the will to make progress in the arts and ICT. Arts educators are showing tremendous interest in using ICT to extend access to the arts, but there are a number of obstacles to progress. This report neatly summarises those obstacles and makes clear recommendations for ways forward."
The conference had an impressive line up of speakers includes Lord David Puttnam, Baroness Blackstone (Minister of State for the Arts), Peter Jenkinson (National Director, Creative Partnerships), Patrick Spottiswoode (Director, Globe Education), and Jonathan Drori (Director, Culture Online). Delegates views on all issues of the day were canvassed and summarised in the body of the report.
