arts4schools: benefits for schools

Please note: this page summarises benefits for those working in the education sector. Benefits for artists and arts organisations are described here.

Why join arts4schools?

If you're a teacher, a student, an adviser, or a parent who regularly needs easy access to information about the UK's leading arts organisations then arts4schools is for you.

A "first-stop shop" it brings together many of the UK's main arts organisations (including the RSC, the Royal Opera House, the National Theatre, Scottish Ballet, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Clwyd Theatr Cymru, Ulster Orchestra, Rambert Dance Company and so on) into one online arts education resource - saving teachers the time and effort of searching through individual websites or brochures.

Subscribers get easy access to a range of services including the following:
  1. Listings:
Information about where and when arts events are taking place, supported where possible by further information such as links to useful websites, resources and so on

  2. Easy access to arts organisations and artists who work with young people:
Subscribers can search for information on education activities and resources offered by member arts companies. Users can search by specific categories - workshops for under 5s, INSET courses, location, and so on.

  3. Bookshop:
A growing list of books relevant to arts education

  4. Monthly e-newsletter:
This gives up-to-date information about new arts events and education activities.

Additional benefits

arts4schools also runs conferences, continuing professional development opportunities and INSET for teachers. Subscribers to the arts4schools' website not only get advance information about these events but also receive a discount on delegate/INSET fees.
  1. INSET
arts4schools tailors courses to meet individual school needs. We have a huge amount of expertise in running one day events or residencies, and can call on the expertise available amongst arts4schools' members to deliver a wide range of topics.

If you would like to discuss your school or organisation's requirements please contact us.

  2. CPD
We are currently working on a science and drama CPD project, commissioned by the Department for Education and Skills and The Wellcome Trust. This very exciting initiative builds on previous projects which have demonstrated the value of using drama based techniques in the teaching of science. Training will take place in November 2003, with a follow up in January/February 2004. More information is available here.

  3. Conferences:
In January 2003 arts4schools ran its first Inspiring Tomorrow's Audiences' (ITA) conference. This was a highly successful one-day event which focused on the future of the arts in a digital world and the implications for schools and arts organisations.

Keynote speakers included Lord David Puttnam and Baroness Blackstone, then Minister of State for the Arts, who opened the conference. More than 300 delegates, including teachers, policy makers and representatives, attended the event.

    Feedback from the 2003 delegates:
Truly inspirational and supportive of the teaching profession - thank you.

An absolutely fantastic day - I feel inspired and ready to go and liven up my use of ICT...

We are currently planning the 2004 Inspiring Tomorrow's Audiences conference: subscribers will get advanced notice, as well as a discounted delegate fee.
